Why We Built This
The stories we almost lost
It starts the same way for most of us. A grandparent passes. You sit at the memorial, listening to people share fragments, a funny story here, a small act of courage there, and you realise with a quiet, devastating clarity that you never actually knew their full story. The war they survived. The country they left behind. The love letters they wrote before you were born. The fears they never spoke aloud.
Those stories didn't disappear in an instant. They eroded slowly, over decades of ordinary life. A grandmother who meant to write things down but never had the time. A grandfather who found it hard to talk about the past. A family too busy living to stop and listen. By the time anyone thought to ask the right questions, it was too late.
Every family has a library inside it. Most of those libraries burn quietly. Not in a single moment, but page by page, memory by memory, over a lifetime of silence.
We built Legacium because we experienced this loss personally, and because we saw a way to prevent it. We think about a grandmother who arrived in a new country with nothing but a suitcase and a determination that shaped three generations. A grandfather who built a business from scratch during a recession and never once talked about how frightened he was. These are the stories Legacium exists to save. Not for archives or institutions, but for the families who deserve to know where they came from.
